    Jennifer Knox has been a pioneering force in merchant shipping since 1991. She was the first female Naval Architect to work at the Garden Island Naval Dockyard in Sydney and went onto be the first woman in Australia to establish a Naval Architectural Consultancy.
    24 years later, her continuing achievements have now been recognised by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) and she has been made a distinguished Fellow of the society. “A member who is considered to have achieved professional standing in the maritime community and has held positions of superior responsibility may be elected as a Fellow – the Institution’s highest class of membership.” says Trevor Blakeley, Chief Executive Officer of RINA; “In Australia there are just 68 Fellows and Ms. Knox is the only woman”.

    Marpol Annex VI: Low Sulphur Emissions

    Operators who are planning new tonnage must have the MARPOL Annex VI legislation foremost in their current investigations.  Whilst the NOx emission controls are already in place, the forth coming global sulphur emission controls will, in 2020, see a signification reduction in acceptable output from 3.5% to 0.5%. Since January 2015 levels in SOx Emission Control Areas (ECA) have already been limited to 0.1%. Existing vessels may choose to retrofit cleaning devices such as exhaust scrubbers. However, new builds have far broader options and may more easily consider alternative fuels such as biofuels or LNG.
